This ‘album’ is only 18 minutes long and this is great because it’s filled with noises of all sorts, but it works because I really like it and it gives me the kind of adrenaline boosts I need when I feel exhausted. This is basically an album where Mr Anselmo and a band he put together for the occasion (Philip H. Anselmo & the Illegals) play the first and the third song, while another musical group called Warbeast play the even numbers. Let us start with describing the pieces sang and operated by Philip H. That fact gives hope that a worthwhile album may be coming soon. After the end of Pantera, Phil has been in a rotation of side projects. With a revolving cast of characters he has recorded everything from stoner and doom metal to straight up death and black metal. The project so far is to be known as Phillip H. Anselmo and the Illegals, however with a shady release date that is subject to change. What we do have though are 2 tracks on a split . with Texas based thrash outfit Warbeast. While the Warbeast songs are worth the download I want to focus on Phil’s effort here. Being a big fan of his work with Pantera I can say that this is the most energetic he has been both vocally and musically since the release of The Great Southern Trendkill. The venom drips from the two tracks that are presented here.

The first track,'Conflict,' which is one from Philip H. Anselmo & the Illegals, is shrieky, post-Pantera Anselmo, but he still has the same dangerous bark and damaging bite. We wish 'War of the Gargantuas' was a bit longer, but it offers a nice taste of what to expect on Warbeast's upcoming full-length, 'Destroy,' and Anselmo's debut solo album, both due this year.
