NOLA is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band Down, released on September 19, 1995 by Elektra Records. The title is the abbreviation for New Orleans (. NOLA was written mainly by Phil Anselmo and Pepper Keenan between 1990 and 1995. Throughout 1991 to 1993 the band released three demos, a three-track demo (1991), a four-track demo (1992) and a ten-track demo (1993). Originally the band made the three-track demo for underground trading.

Nola is the debut release from heavy metal supergroup Down. Its title is a common abbreviation of New Orleans, Louisiana (NO,LA) from where the band was based. With songs written mainly between 1990 and 1995 by Phil Anselmo of Pantera and Pepper Kennan of Corrosion of Conformity, the members of Down gave out a self-produced demo tape (not revealing they were actually in the band) and toured the New Orleans area. Their debut album NOLA helped launch the band into the mainstream metal scene, peaking at on the Billboard 200. It features the track Stone the Crow which peaked at on the Mainstream Rock chart.
It has since been confirmed that Kirk recorded the bass parts. Like much of Pantera's music, NOLA is lyrically enigmatic and frequently celebrates the use of controlled substances. Glorification of cannabis aside, the album's true focus is inner melancholy and atonement for earlier sins.
