Neil Diamond was one of many developing singer-songwriters of the 1960's trying to make a name for himself. He penned many iconic songs early in his career, though his own recordings did not get the attention of the public. But once he began writing songs for other acts while working in the Brill Building in New York City from 1966-68, that began to change. His real rise to fame on his own didn't occur until 1968 when his first album, The Feel Of Neil Diamond, was released with the single "Solitary Man" and a followup single "Cherry Cherry" later in the year. He signed with Uni Records in 1968 and his hits kept coming for a while, "Sweet Caroline," "Song Sung Blue," "Cracklin' Rosie," and "Holly Holy" cemented his fame as a song writer. In 1972 he played 10 sold out concerts at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles.
