Sounding more full and somehow more lush than anything from the Lilac Time's debut album, "American Eyes" is a wonderfully poetic and sad opener to the band's sophomore album Paradise Circus. The song matches a jangling guitar sound lifted straight from Johnny Marr with a late 1970s feel that seems inspired by Steely Dan or the Doobie Brothers.
