The Tony Williams Lifetime was a jazz fusion group led by jazz drummer Tony Williams. The better of the two albums the Tony Williams Lifetime recorded in 1970, Turn It Over, is a far more focused and powerful album than the loose, experimental Ego, and one of the more intense pieces of early jazz-rock fusion around. In parts, it's like Jimi Hendrix's Band of Gypsys with much better chops. It's more rock-oriented and darker-hued than their debut, 1969's Emergency!, and the temporary addition of ex-Cream member Jack Bruce on bass and vocals alongside stalwart guitarist John McLaughlin makes this something of a milestone of British progressive jazz.

Tony Williams formed Lifetime after leaving the Miles Davis Group in 1969, around the time "In a silent way" was finished. His partners in crime where initially guitarist John McLaughlin (who turned down Davis' offer to join his group since he felt he will be rather able to play his own compositions with Williams) and Hammond-innovator Larry Young, with ex-Cream bass player Jack Bruce joining them in 1970. Lifetime lasted just two years. Loads of distortion, psychopathic lyrics and erratic drumming were the trademarks of this remarkable project. Once Lifetime opened a concert for The Who and were almost beaten off the stage by the bewildered crowd.

I think its the best work either of them have done and should be in any jazz or progressive rock lovers collection.
