Guru Guru is one of the most notable German Krautrock bands, existing from the late 1960s to the present. The band has had many incarnations over nearly 4 decades. Drummer Mani Neumeier has remained as the only original member. Mani and bassist Uli Trepte came from playing free jazz in the mid 1960's with pianist Irene Schweizer and the appear on an obscure out of print album under her name shortly before forming Guru Guru in the late 1960's.

This third Guru Guru album has proven to be an exception, because I just didn't know what to do with it. First of all, the band acquired some serious skills when comparing to their debut (the only other Guru Guru album I own). All three musicians are to be placed among the best of the progressive genre and the diversity of guitar-skills of Ax Genrich is almost unbelievable. Although the album is not very innovative and a bit monotonous, it is evident that Guru Guru have mastered their instruments and are now proficient musicians. All in all, Kanguru is a classic Krautrock album. Not only is this one of not all that many albums of the genre that I enjoy, it will be a perfect way to get into it.
