Album · 2017 · 19 Songs.

This retrospection firmly places Transona Five as one of the more interesting – both musically and intellectually – of creative collectives. The fact that they took their compositional endeavours seriously, which is easily recognised by the listener, in turn demands and receives artistic respect. They may have turned into a very important band – who knows? But this collection of songs serves as a great introduction, and will probably make you a Transona Five enthusiast. Or like me, an obsessive

Transona 5 came of age during Denton's space rock boom in the late Nineties, but this isn't the psychedelic noise of Mazinga Phaser. Rather, it's the sound of Major Tom's space capsule orbiting some obscure moon, oxygen slowly running out. This double LP combines highlights from singles, EPs, and 1998's Duffel Bag album with rehearsal tracks and alternate mixes for a portrait of Lone Star indie rock at its most naked. Tempos stay slow and steady, guitars indicating rather than accenting melody, and singer Chris Anderson keeps to a measured croon.

Transona Five are a Dallas, Texas-based American space rock or indie rock band that began playing together in 1995, and named after a song on the Mars Audiac Quintet album by Stereolab. The group was part of the lively Denton-area space rock scene that occurred in the mid- to late-nineties, together with bands like Mazinga Phaser and Skiptracer. Founding members included Chris Anderson (lead vocals, guitar), Chris Foley (guitar, vocals), Annika Morgan (bass), and G. P. Cole (drums).

Transona Five, named after a song on the Mars Audiac Quintet album by Stereolab, were a Dallas, Texas-based band that began playing together in 1994. Part of the lively Denton-area space-rock scene - with bands like Comet, Mazinga Phaser, The Theater Fire, Lift to Experience and Light Bright Highway - Transona Five approached space rock with an emphasis on ‘space’, creating slow, pretty pop songs from cosmic-laden melodies, with occasional kosmiche-inspired outbursts. Rachel Smith (keyboard, vocals, guitar) joined in 1996. After the group's first EP, Melatonin Bullet (Sandwich Records), Sparkles was replaced by Scott Marks (bass, vocals, trombone). Transona Five also released the Duffel Bag LP on Sandwich Records and the Going Away EP with Drawing Room Records. The band toured occasionally throughout the late 1990’s, performing in venues throughout the United States.
