Cruising with Ruben & the Jets is the fourth studio album by the Mothers of Invention. Released on December 2, 1968, on Bizarre and Verve Records with distribution by MGM Records, it was subsequently remixed by Frank Zappa and reissued independently. As with the band's previous three albums, it is a concept album, influenced by 1950s doo wop and rock and roll.
Ruben and the Jets was an American, Los Angeles-based rock band, active between 1972 and 1974. Led by Ruben Guevara, band members included, Ruben and the Jets released two albums, the first of which was produced by Frank Zappa, whose band The Mothers of Invention had previously released an album titled Cruising with Ruben & the Jets, for which Guevera had named his band.

The record comes in a standard stereo cover- it has the familiar small, round "Mothers of Invention" sticker on the front cover, but no promotional designations of any kind
Within the concept of the album, Ruben Sano was the leader of the fictitious Chicano band "the Jets"; the back cover depicted Ruben with an early high school photograph of Zappa. According to artist Cal Schenkel, "I started working on the story of Ruben and the Jets that is connected with the Uncle Meat story, which is this old guy turns this. teenage band into these dog snout people We started that before it actually became Ruben and the Jets. That came out of my love for comics and that style, the anthropomorphic animals, but also it was part of a running story line.
Ruben and the Jets was a Los Angeles-based doo-wop, rhythm and blues and rock and roll band active between 1972 and 1974. Led by Ruben Guevara, band members included Tony Duran, Robert "Frog" Camarena, Johhny Martinez, Robert "Buffalo" Roberts, Bill Wild, and Bob Zamora. Zappa took on the duty of producer for the band's 1973 debut album, "For Real!", which was released by Mercury Records. Mothers of Invention band member Jim Sherwood contributed saxophone and tambourine performances to the album, and Zappa wrote one of the album's songs, "If I Could Only Be Your Love Again," and played guitar on another track from the album, "Dedicated to the One I Love.
