Description

The organization of the list is by date of release, ranging from Run-D. s eponymous debut in 1984 to Jay-Z's 2001 album, The Blueprint. Since for the period of 1979–1983, hip hop was a music for 12" singles rather than albums, the absence of old school hip hop from the list has been compensated for by providing it with its own section of notable releases Lists consulted. Lists 1–5 are exclusively hip hop publications by writers respected in the field.

By the spring of 1979, the first rap record surfaced with funk band The Fatback Band's "King Tim IIII (Personality Jock)". Later, The Sugar Hill Gang debuted in the summer with Hip Hop's most famous commercial record yet,"Rapper's Delight". He is the first to release a Hip Hop album, to embark on a Hip Hop tour, to be featured on television ("Soul Train" in October), and the first to give rap mainstream marketability (he also opened up for The Commodores and Bob Marley on tour).

Criteria: These are the albums that epitomized all facets of hip-hop music/culture in the 1990s. They were chosen and ranked according to quality, popularity, timelessness and influence. A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing - Black Sheep (1991) 37. Whut? Thee Album - Redman (1992) 38. Don Killuminati: The 7-Day Theory - 2Pac/Makaveli (1996) 39. Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version - Ol' Dirty Bastard (1995) 40.

The Jungle Brothers never really received the same recognition their fellow Native Tongues crews De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest did, but their first two albums are straight up Native Tongue classics as well. Their 1988 debut Straight Out Of The Jungle is a classic, this one is more than a worthy follow-up. Allthough they were from California, this album has more of a NY vibe to it. No gangster rap here, but a mix of party and positivity vibes. Not an essential album, but worth checking out anyway. Top tracks: Legalized Dope Give The People What They Want My Girl Fundamental But Essential. 37. Black Rock & Ron - Stop The World. Some brothers act fool, they’re getting me fed You need to lay off the drugs and read a book instead (Stop The World). Black Rock & Ron was a trio hailing from Hollis, Queens, NYC. Their debut and only album failed to gain much attention upon it’s release.

No one has the same type of holiday spirit that a rapper does. From Kanye West to Run-D. their spins on Christmas classics or originals range from hilarious to the weird and serious, but all stay true to themselves. Busta Rhymes made Justin Bieber's "Drummer Boy" a stand-out track from Bieber's Under the Mistletoe album, while DMX's impromptu Power 105 remix to "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" gives the original a run for its money. 6. Kurtis Blow, "Christmas Rappin'". 7. Eazy-E, "Merry Muthaf-kin' Xmas". Mase, Diddy, Snoop Dogg, Salt-N-Pepa, Onyx and Keith Murray, "Santa Baby".

The Best Rap Albums of the '80s. But the fact is that it wasn't the late '60s when everything changed-at least not in popular music. White people were listening to white people performing older black music at Woodstock (not to slight Jimi). And we grew up being told one thing, but knowing something else was true. American popular music today owes everything not to The Beatles or The Rolling Stones, but to the sparks of the late 1970s that took full flight in the '80s. To techno, to house music, to disco, to dancehall-and to hip-hop
