Linton Kwesi Johnson is one of the finest Reggae poets ever and he practically invented the genre of Reggae Dub poetry. This is his finest album and perfectly encapsulates what it was like as a black person living in a racially unfriendly Britain in the late 1970s, when the British National Party was on the rise. Sonny's Lettah (Anti-Sus Poem)' is a stunning song/poem that perfectly sums up what Linton is about and how he awx like a spokesperson for a generation of disaffected Black youth. The beats are brilliantly funky and very dubby at the same time.

Forces of Victory is an album by dub poet Linton Kwesi Johnson, released in 1979 on the Island Records label. In 2003, David Bowie included it in a list of 25 of his favourite albums, "Confessions of a Vinyl Junkie". All tracks by Linton Kwesi Johnson. Want Fi Goh Rave" – 4:20. It Noh Funny" – 3:42. Sonny's Lettah (Anti-Sus Poem)" – 3:50. Independent Intavenshan" – 4:20. Fite Dem Back" – 4:27. Reality Poem" – 4:44.

Dramatic and intense to the point of claustrophobia, Forces of Victory is not simply one of the most important reggae records of its time, it's one of the most important reggae records ever recorded.

I wonder the same thing! Never seen one in 30 years as for sunburn palm tree label used for the 12ers in the same period.... might have been a promo only addition....

Island founded in 1959 - so the tape is around 1984 - 1986
Ygglune Ygglune
This tape you're speaking of was issued in 1987.Island Records WAS founded in 1959... in Jamaica. However, when they were celebrating their 25th Anniversary,it was in accordance to their establishment of the UK headquarters, which happened in 1962. They DID, however, take acknowledgmentof the true founding date between 1998 and 1999 -- ironically, thefinal days of Chris Blackwell's (active) reign at Island Records.

My version of this pressing also has on/upper matrix run out - Buy and read 'Race Today' on side 2 and Jonz on side 1.

Mine too (just added this in the release information). Does yours also have a laminated sleeve?
