R1995 – Dirty Three – 3 R1996 – Dirty Three – 4 Dirty’s Three’s eponymous second album (1995) captures future Bad Seed Warren Ellis, drummer Jim White and guitarist Mick Turner in their first, vigorous flush of youth, taking up gnarly guitar, gypsy violin and brushed, freeform drums and building them into swirling, chaotic cyclones of sound.

With these first three albums (Horse Stories topping as the album with the biggest intensity, but, just the same, as the one that supreme the band's style), Dirty Three played a lot of experimental dark-aired post-rock, with typical influences or resounds from the ambient, atmospheric or nu-sound musical world. Each album (Sad & Dangerous, highly experimental and sound-cut, Dirty Three, hazy and static, and now Horse Stories, char-fully tonic) plays its critically good role, but this album seems for sure to be all what fans, listeners and addicts could wish for and like to listen

JUST AS IAN Anderson introduced flute to rock as a lead instrument - D3's Warren Ellis returns the favor with violin. When I first put this record on I could've sworn it was a reissue of 'Sad & Dangerous.' So I carefully sat down to listen the whole way thru ...Marked by Ellis' emotional fire on the violin and the restrained guitar work of Mick Turner; it's not hard to imagine each of these 9 songs being the soundtrack to some past event in the artist's life. "I remember a time when once you used to love me" whips up an epic tale of loss and regret that metaphorically builds slowly like a relationship, then explodes in a mesh of instrumental chaos. As with all DIRTY THREE songs, the interpretive powers that be are what makes their music so alluring.
