One source claims that White Lightning (named after a notoriously potent brand of lysergic acid) existed in five distinct combinations between the years 1968-1974, and that six different Lightnings came and went between 1969 and 1990. None of these Lightnings are to be confused with Detroit's short-lived post-Guardian Angel five-piece unit that went by the name of Lightnin'.

Lightning – Lightning 1968-1971. Posted on 12/09/2016 12/09/2016 by rockinoldies. Google +. Lightning was an offshoot of Minneapolis ’60s legends Litter that featured guitar wizard Tom Zippy Caplan. The band started out as a power trio and cut one fierce Cream-inspired single William b/w Of Paupers And Poets in 1968 under the White Lightning moniker with Twin Cities record producer Warren Kendrick. The band regrouped into a quintet and scored a record deal with . which issued their eight-song album. That album has since become a highly collectible LP. Lightning became one of the Midwest’s hardest working rock acts and toured extensively throughout the region during their three-year tenure.

White Lightning was an American psychedelic rock band, active from 1968 through 1971. The band was founded by guitarist Zippy Caplan and bassist Woody Woodrich. The band was very popular in Minnesota, mostly due to Caplan's fame playing with The Litter. The manager of radio station KDWB mistook the single "Of Paupers and Poets" for a song by Cream, giving valuable early airtime to the band. They also would perform a cover of the William Tell Overture.

Tracks 1 to 12 recorded at Dove Recording Studios, Minneapolis, MN, and Audio City Recording Studios, Minneapolis, MN, in 1968-69. Tracks 13 to 20 recorded at Sound 80 Studios, Minneapolis, MN. All music transferred from the original 2-track mastertapes except " William Tell " which was transferred from an acetate.
