Dukes of the Orient has its origins in 2007 as ASIA Featuring John Payne, a band that continued on after ASIA keyboardist, Geoff Downes, left the band to re-form the original 1982 lineup. Payne recruited Norlander to join Guthrie Govan and Jay Schellen for tour dates in the US and initial recordings, some of which endured to appear on the Dukes of the Orient album here. Govan left the band to form The Aristocrats and was replaced by guitarist Bruce Bouillet followed by Jeff Kollman and Moni Scaria

Dukes of the Orient are an English and American AOR and progressive rock band formed in 2017 by lead vocalist, guitarist and bassist John Payne and keyboardist Erik Norlander. Payne and formerly Norlander had worked together in Asia Featuring John Payne, an offshoot of British progressive rock group Asia of which Payne was a member from 1991 to 2006, when Asia's original lineup reunited.

Payne and Norlander have really made the right decision in coming up with a fresh collective, for this resulted in their ng album’s achieving both a sense of familiarity and a glaze of currency. With the songs’ ornate structures and arrangements and pristine production, Dukes of the Orient is undoubtedly a masterstroke wrought with passion and time by such experienced and masterful hands.

Dukes of the Orient carries the Asia torch on with great pride and the humility needed to deliver an album so close to the original.
