Description

Features Song Lyrics for Queen's Queen at the BBC album.

At the Beeb is a live album by the English rock band Queen, released on vinyl, cassette tape, and CD in 1989. The album comprises tracks recorded in two sessions for the BBC Radio 1 Sound of the 70s programme. The first four tracks were recorded on 5 February 1973; the rest were recorded on 3 December 1973.

They initially appeared as "Live at the Beeb" in 1989, and in 1995 Hollywood Records released a remastered version of the same - now renamed to "Live at the BBC" (for the sake of a non-British audience who wouldn't be familiar with the term 'Beeb').

Before they had even released their debut album, Queen were well known to listeners of BBC Radio One's late night line-up due to their session work for the station. Their sessions for the BBC still sound fresh to this day, and provide stark alternate versions to the more polished album cuts.

Drawing from Queen's first and third BBC sessions, in February and December 1973, the eight tracks are divided between the band's first two albums - seven from Queen, one (a passionate "Ogre Battle") from what was then the still-gestating Queen II. And they are what you'd expect, vast and bombastic, widescreen epics that make no distinction between the hard rock that was the early Queen's most visible calling card, and the fey, quirky balladry that was the trick up their sleeves

Live at the BBC or BBC Recordings are recordings originally made for or by BBC Radio 1. Many recordings were released under several name variants. Live at the BBC (The Beatles album), 1994. On Air – Live at the BBC Volume 2 (The Beatles album), 2013. Live at the BBC (The Beautiful South album). Live at the BBC (Robert Cray album), 2008. Live at the BBC (Curved Air album), 1995. Live at the BBC (Sandy Denny album), 2007. Live at the BBC (Dire Straits album), 1995.

This page includes a transcription of all of the interviews which were released on disc 6 of the 'On Air' deluxe 6 CD set, which cover the period from 1986 to 1992

But an unfazed Queen had their sights set on greater things. As the band announced plans to record their next album, the expectation was it would be another production extravaganza, but Freddie, Brian, Roger and John already had other ideas. Conducting insightful interviews with all four band members as well as filming them at work in the studio as they were planning and rehearsing their forthcoming North American tour, and then following them as they performed across the US, Bob captured a band attempting to replicate their huge domestic success on the global stage.

Queen At The BBC Import. The eight tracks here were recorded in 1973, four of them before the release of Queen’s debut album in July of that year. The first four - My Fairy King (. 6), Keep Yourself Alive (. 7), Doin’ Alright (. 1) and Liar (. 8) - were recorded in February 1973 and the other four - Ogre Battle (. 6), Great King Rat (. 7) Modern Times Rock ’n Roll (. 0) and Son and Daughter (. 8) - were recorded in December. The first three tracks are very similar to those that would appear on the first Queen album (although the guitar on Doin’ Alright has far less punch on the BBC recording)
