Mr Spaceship (short story) by Philip K. Dick Humanity is at war with the Yuks - an alien species that do not use mechanical spaceships.

You can see the situation.

Dick, Philip K. Mr. Spaceship. This early short story from PKD has been published all over the place. I read it most recently as a standalone e-book. An aged professor’s brain has been transplanted into a spaceship to help fight an interstellar war against the (I’m not kidding about the name) Yuks. But he has his own ideas. Two things I just realized this time around-(1) that PKD beat Anne McCaffrey’s Ship Who series to the punch by eight years, and (2) that PKD, even at this early stage in Dick, Philip K.

I am sorry to trick you that way, Philip, but it was allI could think of. Another day and you would have been back on Terra. Idon't want to remain in this area any longer than necessary. They havebeen so certain of finding me out in deep space that I have been ableto stay here without too much danger. But even the purloined letterwas found eventually. Spaceship" is a science fiction short story by American writer Philip K. Dick, first published in 1953 in Imagination in January 1953, and later in The Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick. It has since been republished several times, including in Beyond Lies the Wub in 1988. The story is set in the distant future, where humanity is at war with "Yuks", an alien life form which does not use mechanical spaceships nor constructions. Instead, it relies on life forms

Thus Mr. Spaceship was conceived and carried out. But will a conscious warship do what the generals wish? Perhaps and perhaps something entirely surprising! Mr. Spaceship by DICK, Philip K. LibriVox. The answer was baffling and the best human minds could only conclude that their ships and mines were somehow alive. So, the next desperate step was to ask "If they are using organic ships, why can't we do the same?". Thus Mr. But will a conscious warship do what the generals wish? Perhaps and perhaps something entirely surprising!

Philip Kindred Dick (1928 - 1982) was an American writer, whose published works mainly belong to the genre of science fiction. Dick explored philosophical, sociological and political themes in novels with plots dominated by monopolistic corporations, authoritarian governments and altered states of consciousness. It's always good to return to the classics, and you can always count on classic sci-fi from Philip K. Dick put these two themes together and wrote this short piece on what could happen if someone put his mind to it. This is sci-fi as it used to be, with more concentration on ideas and the story.

The bibliography of Philip K. Dick includes 44 novels, 121 short stories, and 14 short story collections published by American science fiction author Philip K. Dick (December 16, 1928 – March 2, 1982) during his lifetime. At the time of his death, Dick's work was generally known to only science fiction readers, and many of his novels and short stories were out of print.
