MC Lyte (born Lana Michelle Moorer; October 11, 1970) is an American rapper who first gained fame in the late-1980s becoming the first solo female rapper to release a full album with 1988's critically acclaimed Lyte as a Rock.

Bad as I Wanna B, Lyte’s fifth album, brought a hit as well with Keep On, Keepin’ On featuring Xscape. However, the next two, Seven & Seven and Undaground Heat, Vol. 1, didn’t do much. In 2015, Lyte released her eight album, Legend. In hindsight, Lyte has been as consistent as any emcee, male or female. Her first five albums were solid which many considers her first two as classics

MC Lyte's first batch of albums up until "Act Like U Know' were very groundbreaking in terms of female-led hip hop. This album saw a bit of a change in her career and it seems like on 'Bad As I Wanna B' she was trying to re-mould herself into the guise of a sultry and slightly mysterious sexy figure.
