Gordon Haskell's solo music is an interesting mix of soul and pop influences, far removed from his most well-known group affiliation, with King Crimson (1970-1971). Based on the evidence of the 18 songs here, culled from his 1990s recordings, Haskell's voice hasn't held up as well as that of Greg Lake, his predecessor in Crimson, but it is an expressive instrument in its own right and very good for the kind of music he prefers, American soul; one can detect the influences of Ray Charles, Dr. John, Al Green, Marvin Gaye et a. and he clearly loves.

Gordon Haskell (born 27 April 1946, in Verwood, Dorset, England) is an English musician and songwriter. A pop, rock and blues vocalist, guitarist, and bassist, he was a school friend of King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp, the two first working together in Fripp's mid-1960s teenage group the League of Gentlemen (not to be confused with Fripp's later new wave band). Gordon Haskell is an English musician and songwriter. Haskell first gained recognition as bass player for the British band The Fleur de Lys, and subsequently spent a short period in King Crimson, singing one of the songs on their second album and both singing and playing bass on their third album

I intend putting out the single ‘I’m still mad about you’ as a taster as soon as it’s ready. I am often asked to describe my music and it’s never been easy in an environment that has divided us all into categories  . A lot of the songs on the new album will be called ‘Jazz’ by those who feel the need to categorise. But there’s a song that Don Williams could have done.

Gordon is the debut studio album by American band Barenaked Ladies. It was released through Sire Records on July 28, 1992. After The Yellow Tape was certified platinum in Canada, the group won a contest hosted by a local radio station. With the winnings, Barenaked Ladies were able to hire producer Michael Phillip Wojewoda and record the album at Le Studio, north of Montreal.
