Hexen: Beyond Heretic is a dark fantasy first-person shooter video game developed by Raven Software and published by id Software through GT Interactive Software on October 30, 1995. It is the sequel to 1994's Heretic, and the second game in Raven Software's "Serpent Riders" trilogy, which culminated with Hexen II. The title comes from the German noun Hexen, which means "witches", and/or the verb hexen, which means "to cast a spell"

Hexen primarily stands out because of it’s non-linear ‘hub’ approach to level design, although in most respects in plays like a traditional shooter. The game world is divided into multiple levels that the player must traverse by solving puzzles, finding keys and defeating monsters.
Hexen: Beyond Heretic" is the second game in the Serpent Riders Trilogy, succeeding Heretic. It follows three heroes from the world of Cronos as they do battle against the forces of Korax, the second of the Serpent Riders. The game was developed by Raven Software and published by id Software on October 30th, 1995. It has the largest number of ports and the only game in the series to be ported to consoles.
