Enoch Light never achieved, or aspired to, the heights of fame of say Glenn Miller, he nevertheless had a long career as an orchestra leader and record company executive. This compilation features typically well-produced Enoch Light recordings of top hits from around 1954. It opens with the happy "Little Shoemaker", which was originally a French song "Le Petit Cordonnier". A 1954 hit for The Gaylords, in Britain it was covered by future international singing star Petula Clark

Enoch Henry Light (18 August 1905, in Canton, Ohio – 31 July 1978, in Redding, Connecticut) was a classical violinist, bandleader, and recording engineer. As A&R chief and vice-president of Grand Award Records, he founded Command Records in 1959. Light's name was prominent on many albums both as musician and producer. I bought this set thinking it had the tracks of the following 4 original albums: 1. Big Band Hits of the 30's (vol. 1) 2. Big Band Hits of the 30's, vol. 2 3. Big Band Hits of the 30's and 40's 4. Big Band Hits of the 40's and 50's. On hearing it, however, there are some problems: 1. Two tracks from Album 3 are missing (I Can't Get Started with You; Moonlight Sonata). 2. Each of the other albums (1, 2, 4) has one track of the same title which has been substituted with a monophonic recording. I can't confirm that Enoch Light even made these recordings, and if so the ensemble was probably not called the Light Brigade at that time. The substituted tracks are: Album 1: One O'Clock Jump Album 2: Boogie Woogie (This track seems to be a completely different tune.
