Former Italian waiter who sang the 1982 Christmas No 1 Save Your Love and the Walls ice-cream advert Just One Cornetto. Pagliari was born into a large, impoverished family in the village of Blera, outside Rome. He exhibited musical aptitude from an early age, and his parents encouraged him to join the local church choir. He was teamed by Edward with British singer Hilary Lester (now Gibbon) and the duo was renamed as Renée and Renato.

Renato Pagliari (28 June 1940 – 29 July 2009) was an Italian singer who was the lead vocalist in the short-lived 1980s pop group Renée and Renato. Pagliari died from complications following surgery on a brain tumor at Good Hope Hospital, Sutton Coldfield, 29 July 2009, aged 69, shortly after being diagnosed with cancer. Renée (often spelled without the accent in non-French speaking countries) is a French feminine given name. The song was written by Johnny Edward (creator and voice of fictional robot TV character Metal Mickey) and his wife Sue. John also produced the song and released it on his own label.

Roman-born Renato Pagliari began his career as a professional waiter, working in a series of five-star restaurants across the globe - he often performed Neapolitan songs and operatic arias for appreciative patrons, much to the delight of his employers, and upon settling in Birmingham, England, in 1975 he appeared on the television amateur showcase New Faces. fame was her work as an extra in the film adaptation of the Pink Floyd concept album The Wall. Renaming Lester "Renée," Edward finally negotiated the release of "Save Your Love" in the fall of 1982. The song's similarly over the top video did not even feature Lester, however - by the time "Save Your Love" hit retail, she was singing in another band, and stand-in Val Penny lip-synced her vocals in the promo clip. Lester returned to the fold for Renée & Renato's 1983 follow-up, "Just One More Kiss," which stalled at number 48.
