Sun City was a 1985 album that contained several versions of the Steven Van Zandt-led Artists United Against Apartheid's "Sun City" protest song against apartheid in South Africa as well as other selections in the same vein from that project. In addition to the title track, other songs were recorded at the time completed an album's worth of material.
Little Steven organized a number of artists for this protest against apartheid, including such heavyweights as Miles Davis, Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel, Jimmy Cliff, Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Run-D. Thankfully, the result was extremely listenable, as well as fiercely political; it's one of the few charity or protest albums that stands up to repeated listenings, thanks to the extended instrumental workouts. Little Steven & the Disciples of Soul. Artists United Against Apartheid. Peter Gabriel, Shankar.
Artists United Against Apartheid was organized by "Little Steven" Van Zandt, who discovered Sun City when he traveled to Africa after leaving Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band in 1985. Van Zandt considered naming artists who played the Sun City resort in the song, but decided not to. He asked them to participate in the project instead. Bruce Springsteen, Peter Gabriel, Miles Davis, Bob Dylan, Run-D. Lou Reed, Bonnie Raitt, Bono, Melle Mel, Keith Richards, Jackson Browne, and George Clinton are some of the 54 artists who contributed to the song.
That we can dance while we're organizing is this record's greatest triumph. The five half-brothers of the Wilbury family were hokey but hip, and their individual strengths complemented one another perfectly.

A total of 49 performers joined together on the track.
I ain't gonna play Sun City. Everybody say. I, I, I, I, I, I. Ain't gonna play Sun City. Relocation to phony homelands. Separation of families I can't understand.
