Honey & Wine: Another Gerry Goffin & Carole King Song Collection - Студийный альбом от Various Artists. В альбом вошло 26 треков.
Like songwriter team-oriented compilations that Ace has produced for Doc Pomus-Mort Shuman and Jerry Leiber-Mike Stoller, this anthology of 26 tracks penned by Gerry Goffin and Carole King mixes a few famous hits with a bunch of items that are much more off the beaten path. It's a mixed, if overall worthwhile, blessing. For it's not the place to start if you want the best and most famous work in the Goffin-King catalog, missing the biggest covers of their compositions by the Shirelles, Little Eva, Bobby Vee, Herman's Hermits, Manfred Mann, the Chiffons, the Everly Brothers, and.
A sequel to Ace's two previous Gerry Goffin & Carole King songbook collections - the first, Goffin & King: A Gerry Goffin & Carole King Song Collection 1961-1967, arrived in 2007, while Something Good: From the Goffin & King Songbook, came in 2012 - Hung on You: More from the Gerry Goffin & Carole King Songbook covers the same era as its predecessors: th. The success of the two prior Goffin & King songbooks allows compiler Mick Patrick to dig deep into the songwriters' repertoire, selecting songs that weren't hits; in fact, the only readily recognizable featured song is "That Old Sweet Roll (Hi-De-Ho)," here performed by Dusty Springfield in 1969 but also associated with Blood, Sweat & Tears.
Gerry Goffin/Carole King "Hung on You" hit parade - highest national chart placements: Bobby Vee "Sharing You" (1962) (Music Vendor), UK The Drifters "When My Little Girl Is Smiling" (1962) (Cash Box), UK Earl-Jean "Randy" (1964) (Cash Box) Dion "This Little Girl" (1963) (Cash Box) The Shirelles "What a Sweet Thing That Was" (1961) (Cash Box) Freddie Scott "Where Does Love Go" (1964) (Billboard R&B), But her songwriting skills go back to the early Sixties where she and her husband Gerry Goffin penned a huge run of hits for other people.
Written-By – Charles Weiss (tracks: 9), Gerry Goffin and Carole King, Phil Spector (tracks: 1, 22). Notes. Printed on back cover: "More acknowledged classics and lost gems from one of the greatest songwriting teams of modern times.
Goffin and King met while attending Queens College in 1958 and spent evenings together writing songs. After their college days had ended, the newlywed couple was hired by Don Kirshner to write songs for his Brill Building song publishing firm, Aldon Music.
Writer is the debut album by Carole King and was released in 1970. King already had a successful career as a songwriter, and been a part of The City, a short-lived group she formed after moving to Los Angeles in 1968. Tracks on the album include "Up on the Roof" which was a number 4 hit for the Drifters in 1962, and "Child of Mine", which has been recorded by Billy Joe Royal, among others
He sang on many Goffin & King demos and recorded some sides for United Artists in 1961. On display on this CD set is Love Eyes which appears here in stereo for the very first time. What stands out is not only Carole King’s superb, enthralling melodies but also Gerry Goffin’s outstanding lyrics. One of Gerry’s great strengths is that he can write from a woman’s vantage point as in, for example, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman. The output and histories of songwriters from the Brill Building era represent a formidable slice of American popular culture and this indispensable set allows you to step inside the musical hearts and minds of the indisputably essential team of Carole King and her then-husband, Gerry Goffin.
