Calling Out. by EZTV. Record Label: Captured Tracks. Release Date: Jul 10, 2015.

EZTV Calling Out Captured Tracks. Fire Note Says: Soft guitar pop brewed with heartbreak. Recently, other than maybe Real Estate, there does not seem to be many bands embracing this style until hearing the debut from Brooklyn’s EZTV. The band creates its memorable tunes with ease and reminds me of the 90’s when The Judybats, Ocean Blue and Teenage Fanclub were all over the college airwaves. EZTV started out as a home project by songwriter and audio engineer Ezra Tenenbaum as he had been recording his.

On their debut album Calling Out, EZTV stay on the right side of that line as they build on a power pop lineage that includes Big Star, Cleaners from Venus, Shoes, and especially Emitt Rhodes. Like Rhodes, EZTV write songs that ease into listeners' ears rather than demanding their attention; it takes a little while for just how good Calling Out's tracks are to sink in, but when they do, they cast a bittersweet spell.

It wouldn't be entirely accurate to say that EZTV met while trying out for J. Spaceman's latest US touring line-up of Spiritualized, but it's not far from the truth. Songwriter Ezra Tenenbaum had been casually working on solo home recordings in the vein of Shoes, Emitt Rhodes and Cleaners For Venus, and, in a desire to round things out, he enlisted bassist Shane O'Connell and drummer Michael Stasiak (formerly of Widowspeak)

REPORTED BY: carolina. Songwriter and audio engineer Ezra Tenenbaum had been casually working on solo home recordings on his Tascam 8-Track in the vein of Shoes, Emitt Rhodes and Cleaners For Venus, and, in a desire to round out the songs, he enlisted bassist Shane O’Connell and drummer Michael Stasiak (formerly of Widowspeak). As it happened, the trio’s first chance to play together was an audition for the American touring version of Spiritualized (they didn’t get the job). But, the trio kept meeting and working, turning Ezra recording as a solo artist into Ezra, Shane and Michael playing as a band; thus, EZTV was.

NYC's EZTV have announced their debut long-player, Calling Out, and unveiled lead single "The Light", which you can listen to now. Jarvis Taveniere of Woods has produced the record, which was recorded Thump Studios in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Drawing inspiration from "power-pop and college-rock", the trio - who met while auditioning (unsuccessfully) to be live sessioners for Spiritualized - it's a record that aims to go back to basics, removing the fluff and gumpf in favour of good, strong melodies. Calling Out is out 10 July via Captured Tracks

EZTV's debut record, Calling Out, plays like a summer's day. The entire record gives off a feeling of warmth - the vocals reminiscent of Kinks frontman Ray Davies, the earworm melodies, the way each track breezes its way into the next. In fact, one could flat out compare EZTV to the Kinks; they're just as catchy, but a tad softer (though 1964's "Stop Your Sobbing" would not be out of place on this record)

This beauty is one of the finest alt rock albums of 2015. The ghost of The Byrds, db's and Big Star haunt the songs. Highly recommended!
