After Bathing at Baxter's, the third album by the San Francisco rock band Jefferson Airplane, was released in 1967 as RCA Victor LSO-1511 (stereo) and LOP-1511 (mono). The cover art is by artist Ron Cobb. Due to the lack of a breakout hit, the experimental album was significantly less successful than its predecessor from a commercial standpoint, peaking at number 17 on the Billboard album chart and failing to attain a RIAA certification.

The Jefferson Airplane began 1967 with Surrealistic Pillow and closed it with After Bathing at Baxter's, and what a difference ten months made. The album was among the purest of Rock's psychedelic albums, it was also a lot more daring. The album showed a band in a state of ferment as singer/guitarist Mary Balin largely surrendered much of his creative input in the band he'd founded, and let Paul Kantner and Grace Slick dominate the songwriting and singing on all but one cut ("Young Girl Sunday Blues")

After Bathing At Baxter's", Jefferson Airplane's third studio effort is not an album to use to get into the band. The album, unlike their previous, the classic "Surrealistic Pillow", had no pop hits, didn't sell very well, and wasn't marketable, even for the psuedo-hippie crowd that the record companies were whoring out, much like the emo fad today. Even Marty Balin, previously the band's cheif songwriter of pretty love songs and ballads, took backseat to Paul Kantnar, truly a force to be reckoned with.
