External packaging includes a custom-size brown paper bag, similar to grocery store quality. The bag folds to gatefold size (12-inch by 24-inch, approximately). One side of the bag matches the "JA" image shown with this release in the style of the original A&P supermarkets chain, the other side of the bag contains track listing, track credits, and reproduced hand-drawn caricatures of some of the musicians.

Bark is the sixth studio album by American rock band Jefferson Airplane. Released in 1971 as Grunt FTR-1001, the album is one of the Airplane's late-period works, notable for the group's first personnel changes since 1966. The album was the first without band founder Marty Balin (who departed the band during the recording process but without featuring in the sessions) and the first with violinist Papa John Creach.

Bark, Jefferson Airplane's seventh album, was an album of firsts: it was the first Airplane album in almost two years, the first made after the arrival of violinist Papa John Creach and the departure of band founder Marty Balin, and the first to be released on the group's own Grunt Records label. It was also the first Airplane album made after the onset of that familiar rock group disease, solo career-itis . All of which is to say that there were some excellent songs on Bark (as well as some mediocre ones), even if the whole added up to less than the sum of the parts.
