Only 4 left in stock (more on the way). Yellow Pearl is an inexpensive way of owning the 'best' of Phil's solo material. I was never a big fan of his solo stuff, but this contains anything worth listening to again and again. No real rarities, but it does have Gary Moore's version of Parisienne Walkways with Phil on vocals. Which was the best thing on Gary's Back On The Street solo release. Most the stuff on here is Lynott trying to sound like a contemporary artist from that time (early 80's). Synths, bad percussion, electronic drums?

Lynott did not sing on the album as he felt his voice was not in the same style as Ian Gillan. Towards the end of 1972, Thin Lizzy got their first major break in the UK by supporting Slade, then nearing the height of their commercial success. Inspired by Noddy Holder's top hat with mirrors, Lynott decided to attach a mirror to his bass, which he carried over to subsequent tours. In April 2007, the 1996 film The Rocker: A Portrait of Phil Lynott, which consisted mainly of archive footage, was released on DVD in the UK. In August 2010, Yellow Pearl was released In September 2012, both Lynott's mother and widow objected to Mitt Romney's use of "The Boys Are Back in Town" during his election campaign.

I bought this just to get two "Yellow Pearl" mixes on CD and while listening to the full album, I was astonished at how eclectic it was. It seems like Phil could have sat next to Robert Palmer in the "how-many-genres-can-you-fit-on-an-album" sweepstakes. Almost none of it sounds a whit like Thin Lizzy. Synth rock. Reggae. Pop. Disco-funk.

I have always liked the music of Thin Lizzy-I think some of that bands tracks are brilliantly done-and I was expecting this compilation of Phil's solo work to be equally stellar. It wasn't. Many of the tracks were not even good. There is 20 tracks on this compilation and I thought that only about five of them were worthy of being called Phil Lynott compositions. Very disappointing work.
