Grand Slam: Studio Sessions is a compilation album by Irish rock band Grand Slam, released in 2002 (see 2002 in music), but recorded in 1984 (see 1984 in music). The first disc of this double-disc album is a collection of Grand Slam's songs, chosen by the keyboardist Mark Stanway. The second disc is a collection of demos, and two extracts from a radio interview with Phil Lynott in Dublin in 1984. Disc one. "Nineteen" (Phil Lynott) – 4:02. Crime Rate" (Lynott, Mark Stanway) – 6:14. Interview (Part 2) – 9:08. Nineteen" (Demo) (Lynott, Stanway) – 4:00. Slam" (Lynott, Stanway) – 7:15. Sisters of Mercy" (Alternative Mix) (Lynott, Stanway) – 7:01. Phil Lynott – bass guitar, vocals. Laurence Archer – lead guitar.

Grand Slam are a rock band, formed in 1984 as the brainchild of ex-Thin Lizzy frontman Phil Lynott. The name was chosen after a plethora of other band names had been considered, including Reactor Factor, Catastrophe, Hell Bent On Havoc, Slam Anthem and Slam, the name of a song Lynott had in mind. Grand Slam split up in 1985 due to their lack of commercial success and inability to secure a record deal (largely due to Lynott's reputation as a drug user during his later Thin Lizzy days), although they were rumoured to be excellent live, and had a large cult fan following. Guitarist Laurence Archer recorded a solo album, titled LA, in 1986, and went on to record and tour with a number of acts, including Brian Spence,Rhode Island Red (with drummer Manolo Antonana), UFO, and Medicine Head before retiring from the music business in 1994.

But as proven by the double-disc set, Studio Sessions, this assumption is false. Compiled from tapes from the group's keyboardist, Mark Stanway, Grand Slam saw Lynott attempting to update Thin Lizzy's guitar-driven hard rockin' style, with more of an emphasis on s and pop melodicism.
