And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead (often abbreviated as Trail of Dead) are an American alternative rock band from Austin, Texas formed in 1994. The chief members of the band are Jason Reece and Conrad Keely (formerly Conrad Sobsamai). The two alternate between drumming, guitar and lead vocals, both on recordings and live shows. The band is known for their wild, energetic concerts. Their ninth studio album, IX, was released in November 2014.

Tao of the Dead (pronounced Dào ) is the seventh studio album by Texas rock band. The first single, "Summer of All Dead Souls", was posted on Spin. com on November 11, 2010, and later on Soundcloud.

But the turgid Summer of All Dead Souls is a more accurate indicator of where the album’s headed: The next time a sharp hook jumped out of this tuneless catastrophe, I glanced at my track list and noted that I was now listening to Pure Radio Cosplay (Reprise), making for a grand total of . songs I had any. inclination to listen to again. Still, the effect of those voices spotlights the nuances of the Dessners’ compositional craft. From the stately piano balladry of Roman Holiday and Light Years to the more propulsive Rylan and The Pull of You, even seemingly standard-issue National songs are made rewarding by the guest singers’ eye-opening interpretations. Best of all, they occasionally empower the band to do something completely new, most notably on the stunningly beautiful title track, with its male-female harmonizing and atypically delicate vocal cadences.

The second disc repeats "Part One: Tao Of The Dead," but with each track being separated, and removes "Part Two" in favor of "The Bubble Demo," a series of demo recordings of album tracks. Comes in an 8-panel digipak with 16-page graphic novel insert.

Tao of the Dead has that same sense of togetherness, and in as prog-rockish an album as this one, that’s an accomplishment indeed. They’re insignificant in the greater scheme of things, but it’s these carefully crafted shifts that give Tao of the Dead that continuous 52-minute feeling that Keely was aiming for. Nowhere is it more evident how far the band has come then in that last 16-minute track, an exercise that could have been a shining example of where noodling goes wrong but instead comes off so driven, so focused that it’s impossible to begrudge the band their five movements with names like Rule By Being Just and The Ship Impossible.

With Tao of the Dead, they’ve constructed a majestic return to form. For their seventh studio album, they’ve outfitted their brooding prog with more than a new wardrobe: fleshed-out synths, programming, and stretches of motorik muscle, replacing the hazy, ancient, slightly out-of-reach grandeur of their last album, 2009’s The Century of Self, with immediacy and color. This time out, Trail of Dead recorded quickly-very quickly-laying it all to tape in a band record 10 days.
