Ice-T- Intro/Rhyme Pays.

Ice T's debut album 'Rhyme Pays' was released in the summer of 1987, the lead single 'Make it Funky' had been released a month or so earlier to give a taste of what was to come. The 'Intro' is absolutely fantastic and to this day is still my favourite intro to any album, Dave Storrs uses 'Tubular Bells' to great effect layering it over the top of some epic music, it sounds like a score from a horror film whilst Ice T introduces himself with a poem about his rise from young boy to young gangsta on the tough. streets of Los Angeles, truly epic
That begin to change in 1987, when Ice-T's debut album, Rhyme Pays, was released and sold several hundred thousand copies. Hard-hitting offerings like "409," "Make It Funky," and the title song (which samples Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" and underscores the . resident's love of heavy metal) left no doubt that Ice had very little in common with the Egyptian Lover, the World Class Wreckin' Cru, or the .
Ice-T's debut, Rhyme Pays, is an interesting, somewhat tedious album to listen to, but Ice-T is one of the originators of gangsta rap. Ice-T was clearly very young on this album, and had a lot of improvement to be done. Nonetheless, Ice-T was clearly a talented MC, and showed quite a bit of potential on this album. On Rhyme Pays, we hear an MC who had a lot of improvement and maturing to be done, but nonetheless a lot of potential, and flashes of greatness. One of the songs on here is an all-time classic, "6 'N the Morning"

Album · 1987 · 13 Songs. The ferocious Squeeze the Trigger takes aim at media hypocrisy and racial profiling, while the title track lays out Ice’s no-nonsense philosophy over a Black Sabbath riff. Rhyme Pays (Deluxe Version) Ice-T. Listen on Apple Music.
