Book of Love is the self-titled debut studio album by American synthpop and electronic band Book of Love, released on April 1, 1986, by Sire Records. Philadelphia/New York-based synthpop quartet Book of Love released their eponymous debut, Book of Love, in the spring of 1986, when synthpop was at its peak in the mid-'80s. During 1984 and 1985, the band recorded various demos at the recording studio Noise, in midtown Manhattan.

Book Of Love are a synthpop group that was formed in Philadelphia in 1984 by art school students Ted Ottaviano, Susan Ottaviano, Jade Lee, and Lauren Roselli. The group is best known for its songs "Boy" and "I Touch Roses", both of which were Billboard Hot Dance Club Play charting hits, as well as "Sunny Day", which prominently appeared in the horror/thriller film 'The Silence of the Lambs' (band member Lauren Roselli also appeared in the movie).

This perceptive dissection of love's simplicities is the first single from English musician Peter Gabriel's eighth studio and fourteenth album overall, Scratch My Back. The record consists of Gabriel covering twelve songs by various artists, using orchestra and voice rather than normal rock instruments. Gabriel's plan was for another album, I'll Scratch Yours, to be released at a later date, on which the twelve artists that the former Genesis frontman covered in turn perform one of his tracks. The Magnetic Fields is the principal creative outlet of singer-songwriter Stephin Merritt and "The Book of Love" is backed by Merritt's cover of Gabriel's "Not One Of U. The single was released digitally on January 30, 2010, the day of January 2010's full moon. Gabriel originally recorded this song for the soundtrack of the 2004 movie Shall We Dance.
