Miles: The New Miles Davis Quintet is an album by jazz musician Miles Davis released in April 1956 on Prestige Records, catalogue 7014. It is the debut record by the Miles Davis Quintet, and generally known by the original title Miles as indicated on the cover. In the summer of 1955, Davis performed a noted set at the Newport Jazz Festival, and had been approached by Columbia Records executive George Avakian, offering a contract with the label if he could form a regular band.

Miles Davis Quintet (PRLP 185) is a 10 inch LP album by Miles Davis, released in 1954 by Prestige Records. The album title is not to be confused with either of Davis' later Great Quintets. The three tracks on this LP, and one other, were recorded at Rudy Van Gelder's Studio, Hackensack, New Jersey, on April 3, 1954 After the 10" LP format was discontinued, tracks 1 & 2 were included on Side 2 of the 12" album Walkin'.

Relaxin' features the Miles Davis Quintet in a pair of legendary recording dates - from May and October of 1956 - which would generate enough music to produce four separate long-players: Cookin', Relaxin', Workin', and Steamin'. Each of these is considered not only to be among the pinnacle of Davis' work, but of the entire bop subgenre as well. In a brilliant stroke of time conservation, the scheme was hatched for the quintet - who includes: Davis (trumpet), John Coltrane (tenor sax), Philly Joe Jones (drums), and Red Garland (piano) - to perform the equivalent of their live repertoire in the studio for eventual release.
