The Wild Hunt’ may have some fans crying foul, but over half of the album contains familiar elements that Watain have been composing for the last decade. This album is a natural progression for the group, experimenting with new sounds and styles. The Swedes haven’t abandoned their sound, just expanded upon what was already there and evolving as musicians and songwriters. Despite how disjointed the second half is, it is certain the intent was to craft tension to make the listener uncomfortable. The Wild Hunt’ is Watain’s best release since the hostile black metal masterpiece ‘Casus Luciferi.

All That May Bleed is a set of stops and stomps, with an introduction that begs for fists to be pumped and a rhythm section that sends every verse and chorus into a frenzy.

The Wild Hunt is, without a single doubt even entering my mind as I type this, Watain's master work. Since I know somebody will bug me about this too, my reasons for comparing The Wild Hunt to Blackwater Park are the same reasons I put Ecailles de Lunes as a recommended album. That too is an album that goes far beyond the style found on it and becomes a greater thing. That album is Alcest's magnum opus.

Latest LP The Wild Hunt, out now on Century Media, is sure to stir up even more fan controversy. Rumors of a ballad on the album had some folks worried the trio had turned in their buckets of rotting animal blood for glasses of record label champagne  .
