They released several albums of rock mixed with jazz elements during the 70s and 80s before breaking up in 1990. They reformed in 2000 for both live performances and new recordings.

Kraan Live is a goodlive album documenting the instrumental side of the band. It's decidedly more funky and jazzy then the studio albums up to that point, and for that reason it might have more appeal to people that don't agree well with the Kraut side of the band. For me it's a loss, it's a good live album but it ignores the more experimental and rougher side of the band. With the opening track the album has at least one gem. It's a previously unreleased song and close to the only track with vocals on this album

Kraan reached the peak of their international success with the release of ANDY NOGGER (their third studio album) and LIVE (a double album recorded in Berlin's "Quartier Latin" by veteran engineer Conny Plank) which preceded Kraan's first tour in Britain. Much of the material was in common on these releases, showing how different Kraan were as a live and studio band

Kraan Live" was their first live album released in 1975 and really shows off what this band was all about. They had put out 3 studio albums by this time, but in a live setting the band really cooked. The performances on this album are stellar and many Kraan fans consider this their finest work. Kraan's music is a mix of rock, progressive rock, and jazz. All of the musicians are first rate, with bassist Helmet Hattler particularly standing out.

All the great songs and lyrics from the "Kraan Live" album ont he Web's largest and most authoritative lyrics resource. Kraan is a German band based in Ulm and formed in 1970. It had several minor hits through the 1970s and 1980s. After a break of ten years, the group reunited in 2000. Their early style can be described as Krautrock that turned later to fusion, combining elements of both rock and jazz.

The fact that Kraan could record a double-album out of one concert date and have it all sound this good is as much of an explanation as any of the popularity of this band as a live act. Pieces from their first three albums are not merely presented, but embellished and expanded into new works entirely. Pappert's sax is used naturally rather than electronically embellished, giving some pieces a more urgent tone, and Fride's complex drumming has never sounded better.
