A well-respected big-band arranger, Frank Mantooth wrote for countless orchestras and musicians beginning in the early '70s. His mother played piano and uncle was a violinist, so Mantooth grew up with music. Although he played some guitar while growing up, Mantooth eventually became a talented pian. .

Ashley Alexander Big Band on JAZZ. On It Mostly Bees That Way, Sigmund Floyd, a song by Phil Wilson, Alexander plays double trombone and overdubs baritone sax. Though Alexander had barely begun his career as a mature player, he left his mark on this album. The first seven tracks out of nine were inventively arranged by Frank Mantooth, the band’s pianist. Hopefully someone will re-issue this one on C.JazzWax tracks: You’ll find Ashley Alexander’s Secret Love on vinyl here and CD here. A JazzWax thanks to David Langner.
