The Time is the 1981 debut album by The Time. The album proper was produced and arranged by Prince (using the moniker Jamie Starr) The Time produced three singles: "Get It Up", "Cool" and "Girl", with the first two charting within the top ten on the R&B charts. Cool" was covered by Snoop Dogg for his ninth album, Ego Trippin'.

Wonderful album! Get it up/Cool/Girl! Killa funk, Prince and Morris Day at their best! Reply Notify me Helpful.

As for the album itself, The Time is short on material, featuring only six songs, a couple of them quite slight, but there are a few truly fantastic songs here on a par with Prince's best work of the era, namely "Get It Up," "Cool," and "The Stick," all extended synth-funk jams in the eight-to-ten-minute range. Successive albums by the Time would be more typical of the band itself, yet The Time is no less noteworthy for the lack of the band's involvement; in fact, this debut release is especially noteworthy for Prince fans enamored of his Dirty Mind-era.

It s now our Cool Album of the Day every Easter Sunday. Don’t give me the knock-offs. Give me the original 1971 release featuring Ian Gillian as Jesus. About three years ago I listened to this album for the first time in about 12 years. I could not believe how great it still sounded. The Doobie Brothers What Were Onces Vices Are Now Habits. Today’s Cool album of the Day ( in the Series) is The Doobie Brothers, What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits.
