They Threw Us All in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top is the first album by dance-punk band Liars. The album was first released in October 2001 by Gern Blandsten Records and later re-released in 2002 by English label Blast First. It displays the band in its original line-up with singer Angus Andrew, guitarist Aaron Hemphill, bassist Pat Noecker (currently in These Are Powers), and drummer Ron Albertson.
Cool & Cocky Imagination Late Night Revolution Solitude. Liars have a surprisingly unique approach that distinguishes them from other groups in their willingness to experiment with different tones, volumes, and styles, all of which make They Threw Us in a Trench and Stuck a Monument On an astounding debut. Catchy group vocals are all over the disc, and just about every chorus is instantly memorable yet still somewhat pummeling. The use of digital sounds and beats only adds to the unique properties of the record, giving it a feel somewhat akin to later Les Savy Fav records, only with a much more punk-fueled sound
Liars are a New York band none of whose members are from New York. Parody, mischief and contempt for the mainstream ooze from every pore. These are not the people to leave in a room with a pair of scissors and your kid sister’s collection of Darius posters. Just when you think you’re finally about to get a handle on their slippery punk-funk manifesto, you unfold the sleeve only to find it completely blank other than for a picture of the four of them slumped lifeless along the bottom edge . Far chillier than fellow NY-ites The Rapture and infinitely spookier than ARE Weapons, Liars only unsettling objective is to draw us into their dark delerium and show the world up as a gilded palace of false promises. Or are they? Jason Fox.

Trouser Press called it "one of the most dynamic bands that New York could offer at the top of the'80s. ESG has been influential across a wide range of musical genres, including hip hop, dance-punk.
I've never heard anything quite like Liars. Not to mention their cover art and album title: They Threw Us All in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top. Pure, unbridled anger, just like their music. You'll love them, you'll hate them, but somehow, both moments are equally as enjoyable. The entire album is a work of disrespectful art; even the 25-minute-outro
Liars' debut album is full of experimental post-punk glory, but is ultimately let down by it's incredibly dull and lengthy 30 minute outtro track. The other tracks are great examples of lo-fi raging punk perfection. The lyrics are mostly spit out in classic "hurry" punk rock fashion creating a sense of urgency throughout the whole album that blends perfectly with the repetitive instrumentation. It is a textbook example of how to create a great traditional punk rock album all the.

If I'm treating a lukewarm reception for this album among Liars fans as a foregone conclusion, forgive me; the fact is, We Were Wrong is such an entirely different creature than They Threw Us All in a Trench that I envision widespread strife caused by its polarizing force, street-team members fighting turf wars, brother against brother. I envision the faithful losing faith, while simultaneously, former detractors, uh, tracting by the dozens in response to such a reversal.
