Liars continue their foray into electronic music with a series of incredibly bold, heavy tech house fusions.

Mess is the seventh studio album by music trio Liars, released on Mute Records on 24/25 March 2014. In a press release, singer Angus Andrew said the recording process had been "almost the exact opposite" of creating their last album WIXIW and that "instead of being doubtful, work on the new album has been immediate, fun, instinctual and confident". Mess is the first Liars album that could be given a dance- hyphenate since their debut; it’s physical, bodymoving music for people who don’t have much interest in proper dance music. Liars have been one of the 21st century’s most confounding and consistent bands because they make two kinds of albums: ones where they don’t know what they’re doing, and ones where they’ve figured it out. Since arriving in 2001 as inside operatives bent on dance-punk’s destruction, their career has alternated bizarre and divisive left turns with records that vindicated their artistic vision. The album's message is one of anxiety - a people who have a quickly disappearing chance at making a change that will save them. But eventually, the burning string will run out and the bomb will go off, leaving us all with nothing at all. Rather than give us the lead up and then end with a choice, Liars choose for us: we picked wrong, and the second half is the outcome. The shift of energy and shape of the record is, in that, a very Hitchcock-style effort. Liars have done it again with Mess. The record is out this week on Mute. Liars is an Australian-American rock band formed in 2000. Angus Andrew is the founding and only constant member of Liars. Previous members include Aaron Hemphill who played with the band from its inception until his amicable departure from the project in 2017, and Julian Gross who joined the band for their second album, They Were Wrong, So We Drowned released in 2004, and played with the band until his departure in 2014. Liars have released eight studio albums and are signed to Mute Records.
