Named after R. Budd Dwyer, the infamous Pennsylvania legislator who committed suicide live on camera, Budd strips out whatever melodic and rhythmic consistency Albini had expressed in his music and churns out unremitting, unstructured noise. The title track is an unrelenting cacophony of shrieks and howls, and the fact that it was recorded live (as was most of the EP), meaning that the band willfully subjected a paying audience to it, just adds to the perversity Rapeman gleefully wallows in here.
Two Nuns and a Pack Mule is the first and only album by the Chicago noise rock band Rapeman, released by Touch & Go Records on August 23, 1988. The CD re-release contained the Budd extended play in its entirety.
While sometimes intense and gripping, Budd mostly feels like unstructured noise. Now, I like unstructured noise every now and then, but this just feels rather lazy of Albini to put out. Either way though, enough of this is solid to earn a 3/5.

Budd is the first release by the Chicago noise rock band Rapeman. The first three songs on the EP were recorded live. The title is a reference to Budd Dwyer, a politician who committed suicide during a televised press conference. The lyrics of the title track contain references to phrases used during the incident. It has been re-released as bonus tracks at the end of Two Nuns and a Pack Mule, the band's only LP.
