He was composing and creating ambient when the term was still new as related to music. He recorded Agua at the Lanzarote Music Festival in 1989. It is a set full of deep acoustic elegance with electronic hues and colors. It is also deep electronic elegance with acoustic hues and colors. That indicates that Budd is equally at home in both realms of the ambient music community. This set also strikes home as smooth and melodic neo-classical music.

The CD was in great shape and I am very pleasantly surprised by this CD. It is a live recording of Harold Budd's performance in December, 1989 at the Lanzarote Music Festival; however, each recording is of high quality and there is no back ground noise at all, which one might expect from a typical live recording. The CD contains 8 tracks each of which are played somewhat differently than the studio versions, but nevertheless, very very nice and you would likely not guess this is a live recording. 1 White Arcades (similar to White Arcades on the album by the same name, but the piano is brought forward and the background instruments more reserved - a very nice rendition. 2. Real Dreams of Sails again similar but not quite the same as this same song also on White Arcades.

Agua is the first live album by Harold Budd, and like most live electronic albums this mostly sounds like a studio recording aside from the clapping audience that ends each track. There is no doubt in my mind that this recording was either touched up very heavily post- session in the studio or possibly recorded straight from his synths and piano, because the quality of this for a live album is on at least on par.
