Empires is the third studio album by the alternative electronic band VNV Nation. It was released in 1999 in the EU and 2000 in the United States jointly under the Metropolis and dependent labels. The album combines trance, synthpop and electronic body music (EBM). Darkangel" was released as a single on 28 June prior to the album, and "Standing" became a single, and was also released as part of the Burning Empires EP in 2000.

There is not a weak point in this album. Empires is the breakthrough album by VNV Nation, who is made up of Ronan Harris and Mark Jackson. The album is full of danceable electronic melodies combined with harsher EBM (electronic body music) beats and orchestral strings. All of this is combined with Ronan Harris' lyrical prowess. The album opens with an almost inchoate rhythm that expands into so much more. There is a lot of variety on this disc.

Anyone else have an opinion on the sound quality of this pressing?To me, it sounds quite empty & flat.I actually prefer my CD copy.

Same here with my clear copy, absoluttaly dissappointing and YES , mastering is different for CD than Vinyl. People who cares about the vinyl pressings make a special master and equalizing for a vinyl press. This is even more important when you want to make a new vinyl press over a CD that have never been released on vinyl before. the only explination that I see (thinking good) is that they didnt have the money/time to make it right and they just release it as a new item to sell... in any case it only prooves that Anachronsounds sucks making vinyl ( and thats very poor in the "VINYL ERA" that we are living! go to any little band in bandcamp for example, anyone sounds better than this! )

Glad I'm not alone in thinking this.Maybe it would have been better to spread the album over two records (45rpm?), but then again the album isn't exceptionally long so it's no excuse.Perhaps they simply used a CD copy as master instead of mastering it specifically for vinyl?I'm no expert in recording technology but I've heard that mastering for CD is different to mastering for vinyl.

This pressing is definitely muddy, most of the parts run into each other where there is much more clarity on my CD and my Rip from said CD.
