The Specials is the debut album by British ska revival band The Specials. Released on 19 October 1979 on Jerry Dammers' 2 Tone label, the album is seen by some as the defining moment in the UK ska scene. Produced by Elvis Costello, the album captures the disaffection and anger felt by the youth of the UK's "concrete jungle"-a phrase borrowed from Bob Marley's 1972 album Catch a Fire but equally apposite used here to describe the grim, violent inner cities of 1970s Britain.
The Korgis Archive is a compilation album by English pop band The Korgis. It was released by Rialto Records in 1997. This is a CD re-issue of the 1983 UK album The Best of The Korgis with eight additional tracks. Everybody's Got to Learn Sometime" (Warren) - 4:13. From 1980 album Dumb Waiters. Encore is at its best when it leaves the Specials’ past behind and faces forward. A cover of the Equals’ Black Skin Blue Eyed Boys is a tip of the hat to Eddy Grant’s pioneering multiracial band, and unlike anything the Specials have released before, offering impressively taut funk in the place of Jamaican rhythms. The final track, We Sell Hope, hits what you might call the classic Specials’ emotional sweet-spot – sounding simultaneously anthemic and doom-laden was always among their neatest tricks – with an impressive effortlessness. A solemn reggae ballad, decorated by vibraphone, it never feels like it’s trying too hard to recapture old glories. It’s an unequivocal triumph on an album that mixes the great and the so-so, the former outweighing the latter enough to appease fans, if not, one suspects, ex-bandmates.
