Deep Purple" is the side that I played the most when this 12" first came into my possession, as the amens, pads, and atmospheres sound similar to pre-Hokusai Source Direct and their aliases, especially Secret Liasons and their Certificate 18 Sounds of Life 12"'s. Reply Notify me 1 Helpful.

There seems to be confusion over which tune is which. I have the press sheet that came with the promo in front of me now, and it confirms that the amen track is called "Aquamarine". Check the promo release entry images for proof. Anyway, both sides are absolutely lush. Great 12".

One of my favorite mid-90's atmospheric plates to mix in and around more well-known classics, as this relatively rare and unplayed 12" deserves a lot more attention than its received, and it blends flawlessly with the recognizable GLR/Photek/MSX catalogues. "Aquamarine" is devastingly gorgeous with its tabla drums, tons of layered breaks, and the intro breakbeat evocative of Adam F's Circles. Key descriptive word is "layers", as whenever I listen to this track I hear something new that rekindles my appreciation. "Deep Purple" is the side that I played the most when this 12" first came into my possession, as the amens, pads, and atmospheres sound similar to pre-Hokusai Source Direct and their aliases, especially Secret Liasons and their Certificate 18 Sounds of Life 12"'s. A veritable array of progression and beauty make this 12" a must-have for deep atmospheric lovers, but be patient with the pricing, as it's not that rare nor that well-known to command upwards of the $30+ that's currently available.

This release is such a beautiful rarity. Being a Xpressive promo i reckon that has partly something to do with it but listening to these two tracks and being a Urban Flavour fan i can see so much forward thinking crossed over here; aspects of mellow atmospherics with the all too familiar but lovable jungle breaks drum and bass was using back then. The sound here is so future, 'Aquamarine' is far-out, blending a simple drum beat into a deep atmospheric that can only be understood if sat down listened to. 'Deep Purple' is my favorite of the two, which musically, hits the the same notes as the flip but emphasising the raw break and raw atmospheric (notice the female vocal), making this a pure intelligent tune.Parallax outdid himself on this one, and im blessed to have even heard it. Needs to be exposed.
