Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! is the debut studio album by the American new wave band Devo. It was originally released in August 1978 on the Warner Bros. label (Virgin Records in Europe. Produced by Brian Eno, the album was recorded between October 1977 and February 1978, primarily in Cologne, Germany. Billboard chart and No. 12 on the UK Albums Chart.

A: We Are Devo! was a seminal touchstone in the development of American new wave. Q: Are We Not Men also revived the absurdist social satire of the Mothers of Invention, claiming punk rock's outsider alienation as a home for freaks and geeks. While Devo's appeal was certainly broader, their sound was tailored well enough.

Sample this album Artist (Sample). I am new to devo and this cd is awesome. This cd includes the original studio album and a live performance of the "are we not men" album. The sound quality, despite the lofi quality of devo and the Era the music was recorded in, is quite good. I prefer the live performance of this album better than the studio version, which is odd for me. I generally just want to listen to the studio version of an album and neglect "extras". This cd is different, it is really well done.

Devo’s debut album hit in the UK and in the US and, in later years, has been hailed as one of the most significant post-punk/new wave/art rock releases of the 70′s. Ever the forward thinkers, both David Bowie and Brian Eno vied for production duties on Q:Are We Not Men? after hearing Devo’s demos; Eno won the position but Bowie did help out with some of the work and ended up remixing many of the LP’s tracks
