My take on Daft Punk's movie Electroma.

Daft Punk is a French electronic music duo formed in Paris in 1993 by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter. They achieved popularity in the late 1990s as part of the French house movement; they also had success in the years following, combining elements of house music with funk, techno, disco, rock and synthpop. They have worn ornate helmets and gloves to assume robot personas in most public appearances since 1999 and rarely grant interviews or appear on television.

Daft Punk's Electroma is the first full-length feature film directed by Daft Punk. It was written by Thomas Bangalter, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, Paul Hahn and Cédric Hervet, shot by Bangalter and produced by Paul Hahn. The movie is about two robots who wish to become human. The film features no actual music from Daft, but instead music from artists like Todd Rundgren, Brian Eno, Sébastien Tellier, Curtis Mayfield, Linda Perhacs, Jackson C. Frank and Mathieu Tonetti. Daft Punk sit down in chairs as the people pour skin-colored latex over their heads and apply fake facial features. The two robots walk around town with their new human faces, shocking the robot residents. We never planned for it to happen, but after we directed the videos for our last album we decided to keep on working. We were in the shooting dynamic, so the movie came naturally. We didn't think too much.

6. Human After All (2005). If there is a valley, or caricature album in Daft’s catalog, it’s Human, the group’s most melodically austere and numbing record. While themes of dark, tech-fearing paranoia were fresh to the group- and employed purposefully, to contrast the buoyancy of Discovery - Human’s themes largely feel recycled; the tech-jargon labyrinth Technologic, piggybacks off.

Daft Punk's Electroma is an odyssey of two robots who journey across a mythic American landscape of haunting, surreal beauty on a quest to become human. Their symbolic quest, which takes them from endless two lane highways to small idyllic towns to the arid desert, finds Daft Punk once again resisting conformity and developing new ways to highlight their inventive vision. A silent feature-length film that made its international debut at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival, Electroma will interest Daft Punk fans and film enthusiasts alike.
