Daft Punk are an electronic music duo consisting of French musicians Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter. The duo achieved significant popularity in the late 1990s as part of the French house movement and were met with continued success in the years following, combining elements of house music with funk, techno, disco, rock, and synthpop. The group was managed from 1996 to 2008 by Pedro Winter, the head of Ed Banger Records. Homework is the debut studio album by the French electronic music duo Daft Punk, released on 20 January 1997 by Virgin Records and Soma Quality Recordings. The duo produced the tracks without plans to release an album. After working on projects that were intended to be separate singles over five months, they considered the material good enough for an album.

If you wanted Daft Punk, but something original, lets go back to the beginning. In ‘97, Britpop (a fusion of British music and pop music) dominated the world. Basically, one year later, OK Go and Coldplay would form. Alive steps away from sampled music, while Da Funk, with its fusion of samples and house, made it one of the best-selling singles Daft Punk ever released, Teachers, with its fusion of rap and pop, stands classic, and was featured in many YouTube videos, while Daftenedirekt along with Wdpk 8. FM opened us up to the world of Daft Punk.

Daft Punk: French electronic music duo formed in Paris in 1993 by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter. They achieved popularity in the late 1990s as part of the French house movement; they also had success in the years following, combining elements of house music with funk, techno, disco, rock and synthpop. They have worn ornate helmets and gloves to assume robot personas in most public appearances since 1999 and rarely grant interviews or appear on television. The duo were managed from 1996 to 2008 by Pedro Winter, the head of Ed Banger Records.

Daft Punk is one of the most influential musical act of the last 20 years. Dance and electronic music defines the musical movement of our era. It's leaked into rock, rap and even country. It is the pop sound of the day, and Daft Punk has most certainly played a heavy hand in that sonic domination. Daft Punk is the kind of band other bands write songs about (looking at you, LCD Soundsystem). When Skrillex accepted his first Grammy, he was all I think Daft Punk should have won Grammys. The French duo invented the concept of the bedroom producer with its first album Homework in 1997, yet Daft Punk has had only two tours in 20 years, the second of which launched the modern dance music stage production concept. I, like many kids I know, fell in love with this song when it played on a special presentation by Cartoon Network's Toonami. As I get older, it becomes ever-more relevant to my life.

This mix was actually broadcasted live in the UK on Radio 1's Essential Selection as part of their 'Heroes of 2001' feature. Although many of the mixes between tracks are quite quick and sometimes not very slick, this is a well structured mix with lots of energy that flows easily from one track to the next! I think Daft Punk definitely deserve some respect for playing a set that consists of relatively few of their own productions, but still manages to capture that trademark Daft Punk style!
