Fingertight was an American rock band from Martinez, California. The group released one album on Columbia Records before breaking up in the mid-2000s. Fingertight began as a local group playing in the San Francisco area, and self-released an album which they promoted heavily through internet channels such as mp. om. Signing with Columbia Records in 2001, the group released its major-label debut, In the Name of Progress, in 2003

For its Columbia debut, In the Name of Progress, Fingertight - vocalist Scott Rose, guitarist Sergio Renoso, bassist Jesse Del Rio, and drummer Kirk Shelton - worked with producers Tobias Miller and Bill Appleberry, who had previously helmed Adema's debut. But while that group blindly follows in the nu-metal footsteps of Korn, Fingertight's take on the post-grunge sound is more confused. On one hand, the band channels Tool ("Speak in Tongues") and does a fair amount of head-banging on the seething "Surface. But it then shifts gears with the plaintive strumming.

Fingertight was a California based band that disbanded several years ago. While they were together they produced only one album, "In the Name of Progress. It displayed an uncommon range of sound–the sound could be loosely decribed as alternative but from track to track style blurred.

Another essential "nu-metal" album spotted! Now I admit my definition for nu-metal differs a bit than others may commonly classify. Here you have an alternative rock album than manages to skate along the metal genre w/o relying heavily on the guitar distortions that're more common in the hard rock genre w/ accompanied lyrics that sound occasionally too melodramatic (my understanding of nu-metal)  . They still have those song streaming on myspace. They lost something in transition from being a local band to signing a deal, but In The Name of Progress is still a solid album.
