Mingus (Charles Mingus album). 1961 studio album by Charles Mingus. Mingus is an album by jazz bassist and composer Charles Mingus. The album was recorded in October and November 1960 in New York for Nat Hentoff's Candid label.

On the original LP issued by Columbia, Mingus thanked producer Teo Macero for "his untiring efforts in producing the best album I have ever made. From his deathbed in Mexico in 1979 he sent a message to Sy Johnson (who was responsible for many of the arrangements on the album), saying that Let My Children Hear Music was the record he liked most from his career

DON'T BE AFRAID, THE CLOWN'S AFRAID TOO
A ten melody fugue composed and arranged by Charles Mingus. Transcribed and orchestrated by Sy Johnson. The opening lines of Snooky Young's trumpet solo is a Hobart Dotson trumpet solo as he had played it in a live performance and is dedicated by Charles Mingus to Hobart Dotson's widow and children.
