Most Big Country fans would admit that "Why The Long Face" isn't exactly their finest hour. It's not bad, by any means, but it's the sound of a band well past their prime, fumbling about for a direction and not really finding one. Of their 8 studio albums, I'd put it 7th; it's better than "No Place Like Home", but that's really to damn with faint praise. But there is a lot about this album which is immediately forgettable. The second disc plus some additional tracks on the end of "Eclectic" collects all the single mixes and b-sides, and the final disc is demo versions of every track on the album plus a few more besides.

The Seer is the third studio album by the Scottish band Big Country, released in 1986. The album featured very traditional Scottish musical settings, reminiscent of the band's debut album The Crossing (1983). Kate Bush worked on the title song in a duet with lead singer and lyricist Stuart Adamson. The album's first single, "Look Away", was an Irish number one, and was also the group's biggest hit single in the UK, reaching The album reached number 2 in the UK Albums Chart.

Why the long face? Helen: What's wrong with my face? Jen: Nothing's wrong with your face, except that it looks a bit upset. Helen: But you just said I've got a long face. Jen: No – what I said wa. elen: You think I've got a strange face. I KNEW I shouldn't have worn my hair like this today. Jen: No, I asked you: "Why the long face?" Helen: Is it my nose? Is it too big? Or maybe my chin is the wrong shape. Jen: In English, the expression "why the long face?" is used as an informal way of asking someone what's wrong if they look upset. Helen: So there's nothing wrong with my face? Jen: No, there isn't. Let's hear some examples of the phrase in use. You've just got a new job, a new house and a new man – you should be happy! Why the long face? Hey there, don't look so sad! Why the long face?
