Description

Coexist is the second studio album by English indie pop band the xx. It was released 5 September 2012 by the Young Turks record label. After a break from touring for their 2009 self-titled first album, the xx's band members began to write songs individually before they recorded Coexist from November 2011 to May 2012.

The xx. Released September 5, 2012. Shortcomings aside, you’ll find yourself enjoying Coexist and returning to it. It’s hard not to be disappointed given what came before, but the xx are still a special band, and time could possibly be kinder to their second LP as its place within a longer career comes into focus. For now, they’ve earned the right to make this record. Every band that creates a new world deserves a chance to return to it, to play around some more and see how much inspiration still exists. Asking for a third shot at it, on the other hand, is generally a harder sell.

Coexist is the second studio album by English indie pop group The xx, released on 5 September 2012 by Young Turks. After a break from touring for their 2009 debut album xx, the group's members began writing songs individually before recording the album during November 2011 to May 2012. Guitarist Romy Madley Croft and bassist Oliver Sim drew on personal experiences for their songwriting. For Coexist, The xx drew on the electronic dance music that occured when they were away on tour in 2010.

Coexist shows no such growth. If I were to say, "You know the song that mentions a look in a lover's eyes?" you'd say, "Which one?" because some variation of the phrase pops up repeatedly. Shortcomings aside, I find myself enjoying Coexist and returning to it. It's hard not to be disappointed given what came before, but the xx are still a special band, and time could possibly be kinder to their second LP as its place within a longer career comes into focus. For now, they've earned the right to make this record.

Label: Young Turks ‎– YT080LPX. Country: UK & Europe. Considering it's such a quiet album there's excessive distortion on the vocals in places, as if the stylus were clogged with fluff (which it isn't!) Reply Notify me Helpful.

The xx announces US tour dates; free album download with purchase of ticket. Media outlets post the track list for the Coexist album. The official version of the single "Angels" appears on Youtube. SongLyrics adds "Angels" lyrics and Coexist tracks.

In the years between their debut and Coexist, the xx's sound took on a life of its own, thanks in large part to Drake's hit duet with Rihanna, "Take Care," which sampled Jamie Smith's collaboration with Gil Scott Heron, We're New Here. That single embodied and popularized the xx's aesthetic to such a degree that on first listen, Coexist can sound like demos for a potential follow-up.

The xx exist in a time and space of their own making. In 2009 the south London trio s debut album, xx, quietly made at night over the course of two years, bled steadily into the public consciousness to become shorthand for newly refined ideas of teenage desire and anxiety. Articulated with a maturity beyond their years, its hallmarks were restraint and ambiguity. Where xx lent in close to whisper in your ear, Coexist gazes warmly in your eyes. Above all, though, Coexist is an album of confident adult reflection. Angels, " sung by Romy, is a perfectly distilled love song. Its counter is "Fiction" led by Oliver, a bittersweet ballad that s strength lies in naming its fear. What has changed for The xx? Nothing, and everything.
