Koyaanisqatsi (English: /koʊjɑːnɪsˈkɑːtsiː/), also known as Koyaanisqatsi: Life Out of Balance, is a 1982 American experimental film directed by Godfrey Reggio with music composed by Philip Glass and cinematography by Ron Fricke. The film consists primarily of slow motion and time-lapse footage of cities and many natural landscapes across the United States. The visual tone poem contains neither dialogue nor a vocalized narration: its tone is set by the juxtaposition of images and music.

Philip Glass' score for Godfrey Reggio's 1983 film Koyaanisqatsi comes from one of his most fertile creative periods, soon after Satyagraha and about five years after Einstein on the Beach, and it contains some of his most immediately appealing music. For listeners who are not likely to wade into one of his huge operas, Koyaanisqatsi's manageable dimensions make it an ideal introduction to Glass' work (if there is in fact anyone out there who has not yet been introduced to it) because many of its sections are so memorably distinctive. The 1983 soundtrack includes about 46 minutes of music, a little more than half the length of the film.

Koyaanisqatsi - Life Out of Balance. There are three versions of this Soundtrack to a film I really don't remember coming out. The original is not worth discussing because it is on vinyl and although I generally miss the break in music of a vinyl recording, in this case it really works better on CD. There are not one but two CDs versions.
